Did you know that over 80% of all grapes harvested in Australia are controlled by five multi-national corporations? This massive consolidation of the Australian market happened in the late 1980′s when 4th and 5th generation winery owners found themselves asset rich but cash poor, with big corporations waiting with a checkbook in hand.
Through wave upon wave of consolidation, there also rose a homogenization of style and taste across many brands. Our wines fight this trend, swimming upstream against the ‘sameness’ of critter wines. If you want Australian wines of distinction, we have them.
Our Australian portfolio is comprised of family owned, family controlled wineries that extol similar virtues to The Wine Company. They are not interested in fad or fashion, but rather reflecting a sense of place in a European-style mindset.
