Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
In the interest of full disclosure I must begin by expressing years of loving this wine; I go into tasting each new vintage with an earnest anticipation. Also in the interests of complete transparency one of the reasons I enjoy this so much is that there’s more than meets the eye; this is actually more of a Bordelaise blend of the Bordeaux Five that we know and love: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec & Petit Verdot. These varieties round out the wine to depths few varietal Cabs could touch. Rich sassafras, baking spices and cedar notes compliment a palate that’s dense, dark, and sweet scented of ripe cassis. Just gravid with ripe dark fruit and cedar spice, this is full bodied with a density that doesn’t require any ageing to enjoy –and the finish lasts on and on... 13.9% alcohol
