Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Franc 2009

14 months in French oak tease out the Bordelaise side of this varietal wine with the rich and resplendent side of Cabernet Franc out-ripening the any herbal characteristics that sometimes ruin an otherwise fine bottle of California Cabernet Franc. This is by no means Cabernet Franc of the middle Loire; no, this is what Alexander Valley can do: woodsy spices, subtle layers of fruit, ample tannin, black currants, and forest floor. Ripe but firm, the finish lingers with spice box and staying power.
