Alexander Valley Vineyards Merlot 2009

Alexander Valley Vineyards 2009 Merlot, Alexander Valley, Sonoma County 14%
Rich grilled black plum notes combine with Christmas spices, cedar mulch, peeled cinnamon bark, and hardwood incense consume the nose and keep ones focus with a poised balance seldom found on Merlots of this sort –as a wise man Bleem was so quick to remark, “this ain’t any Merlot my friend! These guys make a fine bottle of Merlot.” That they do.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, August 2012

The 2009 has aromas of black cherry, blackberry, oak, vanilla, plum and the slight eucalyptus typical of Alexander Valley. In the glass there are flavors of plum, vanilla, more cassis and red fruit, a touch of spice and mint. Overall the 2009 is elegant with good balance and a long aftertaste. 14% alc by vol.

Expert Review

California State Fair Gold Medal & Best of Appellation:
94 points; This is a big Merlot with loads of black fruit and a long finish. Neither tutti fruity, nor wimpy, this is a wine for serious Merlot lovers.

Food Pairings

While Merlot’s popularity can be attributed to its easy-going style, some credit may also lie in the fact that it’s the perfect food wine, bold without being intrusive. As a result, this wine works great with a range of foods, from veal chops to beef
