Alexander Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Cabernet Sauvignon 87%, Merlot 7%, Cabernet Franc 4%, Malbec 1%, Petit Verdot 1% | The 2013 growing season was almost identical to 2012. The year began with another dry winter and spring, then throughout the summer we experienced a warm growing season with
abundant sunshine and even growing temperatures. Our grapes ripened evenly, harvest started 11 days earlier than in 2012 and proceeded at a fairly quick pace ending on October 29th. While news of the lack of rain dominated conversations, there was an upside to the drought; the grapes had more concentrated flavors than in 2012. After harvest the different
lots were de-stemmed , fermented separately, then aged in American and French oak barrels for 14 months.
Wine notes from the winery

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Alexander Valley wine with medium body, great
fruit flavors and grippy tannins. Winemaker Kevin Hall added 7% Merlot for structure, a touch
of Cabernet Franc for floral notes and Malbec and Petit Verdot for color.

There are aromas of dark fruit, blackberry, cherry, cassis, plum, vanilla and a slight cocoa and
chocolate note. In the glass there are rich flavors of cherry, cassis, blackberry, plum, spice,
tobacco and chocolate. This is a plush wine with medium body, nice balance and a long
finish.

Food Pairings

Grilled or pan seared beef, lamb or tuna is a classic. For an unexpected pairing try a blue cheese soufflé as an appetizer.
