Lageder Muller-Thurgau 2012

Recent DNA fingerprinting has proven this unique species of Vitis Vinifera, created by Hermann Müller from the Swiss Canton of Thurgau in 1882 and long thought to include Silvaner or Chasselas parentage, is in fact a crossing of the fragrant Riesling with the earlier ripening Madeleine Royale.

Made of Müller Thurgau from selected vineyards in the Isarco valley (between Chiusa and Bressanone) at 1,650 – 3,020 feet altitude, with some vines 55 years old, this is a refreshing glimpse at a fragrant variety grown in the alpen foothills that bring out Müller Thurgau’s best by preserving its structure and high toned fragrance.

It is a brilliant straw-yellow color with a green shimmer. Pronounced, fruity, forward varietal aromas also bear a delicate Muscat note. A medium-bodied, elegant, grapey flavor with a crisp, refreshing finish makes for a refreshing white great as an aperitif, with starters, and all kind of seafood.. When properly cellared, this wine may be kept for at least 2 – 4 years.
