Anton Bauer Gruner Veltliner Gmork 2013

Anton Bauer 2012 Gmörk Grüner Veltliner, Wagram, Österreich | 12% | From the long ridge of loess and clay where the Wagram rises up from the north end of the Danubian plain, this Grüner Veltliner serves as a crisp calling card for Anton Bauer’s 60 acre vineyard of rising acclaim. Mineral and crisp from roots flexing through fossils and seashells, this wine also benefits from the Wargram stretching East to West not only meaning it slopes South toward the sun but that it runs along the Danube (The Blue Danube!) that helps channel the cooler temperatures that begin in the dark forest of the Waldviertel in the Northwest. This is how land defines a wine –by ripening fruit but keeping it crisp, soaking up minerals but ensuring your palate is awash in fruit; in this case one enjoys plenty of citrine fruit in all their spectrum but is kept to an even brighter melody of tart green apples –an invigorating wine poised to pounce on fresh produce, brook trout, grilled pork, or simply the yearning tongue at the end of one’s day.

Food Pairings

This wine is ideal as an aperitif, but works equally well with fresh vegetables, fish dishes and fried chicken. It's also the perfect picnic wine.
