Paitin Nebbiolo Ca Veja 2009

Ah, Nebbiolo! You are a big chewy red when you tap your roots in southeasterly slopes in Alba north of Barolo. Wild cherries and forest floor, sage sprigs and pine boughs, sassafras and lifted high notes of brown sugar make quite an impression on the nose. Rich and textural, the palate echoes all of these with a smile but a very firm handshake of tannins, almost like the handsome father of the girl you are courting whose warm expressions and welcoming demeanor never completely put you at ease –that is until the meal, when paired with a bit of protein this comes to life and you’re suddenly best friends as if you grew up together. Serious wine that is still fun to drink.
