Inama Carmenere Piu 2008

The great Carmenère speaking fluently in Italian? Who knew this may be the tongue in which it's most comfortable! Fragrant plums and gentle spices harmonize with a high, barely perceived herbal and savory note that proves this is indeed, beyond a doubt, not just Carmenère but a remarkable one at that. But that’s not the entire story; this lovely medium bodied red is in fact 60% Carmenère, 35% Merlot and 5% Raboso Veronese, lending a ripened fruit that is further tempered by one year in barrique. Indicazione geografica tipica or IGTs have done much for the Italy’s visionary winemakers. As with any soft sided category some entrepreneurs simply ride the wave, contributing little or nothing but Piu reminds skeptics that the IGT mark is in place for the purpose of gifted winemakers with greater horizons to show us of what they’re capable of doing when given limitless varieties to grow on their terroir which must be capable of so much more than the DOCG might allow; Piu is Carmenère as it ought to be with an Italian twist -not to forget to mention it is the only Carmenere from the Northern Hemisphere!
