Barraud Pouilly-Fuisse Sur La Roche 2010

Daniel et Marine Barraud 2009 La Roche Pouilly-Fuissé, Vin de Bourgogne | 13% | 100% Chardonnay | No usage of synthetic chemicals | 100% fostered and harvested by hand | Imported by The Wine Company | La Roche is named for Roche de Vergisson (or Rock of Vergisson) that defines Pouilly-Fuissé. It is an enormous limestone escarpment that faces La Roche de Soloutré and defines the steep limestone vineyards that drape its feet down to the village of Vergisson where the Barrauds have called their home since the 19th century.

From two plots of 35 year old vines, this Pouilly Fuissé is just humming. Tangy scents of creamy lemon peels, poached apples and pears carry on from a permeating nose to a penetrating palate echoing these in a chirping texture of dry extract, apple skin tannins and beautifully ripened flavors lingering fragrantly long onto the finish with a lasting sappiness that goes on for minutes as only great limestone driven Pouilly-Fuisse can do. A Who’s Who sort of exemplary Pouilly-Fuissé at its best.
