Barraud Pouilly-Fuisse Sur La Roche 2006

With engrossing orchard fruits, membrillo spread and a high note of bergamot oranges and warm waxen lemon rinds. Sap driven verve occupies the palate with a mineral structure and the full breadth of fruits found on the nose. Barraud lifts the already proud Pouilly Fuisse to yet a higher echelon with this firm yet forgiving elixir that shows an ameliorating hazelnut quality which rounds out its stone like qualities. Striking and irresistible. –NL, tasted March 2009

Barraud Pouilly-Fuisse ‘La Roche’ 2006
This is one of a small handful of excellent producers making Pouilly-Fuisse worthy of it’s huge (and all too often undeserved) popularity. If you are one of the unfortunate guys accustomed only to the big-brand dregs of Pouilly-Fuisse, it is about time that you experience a truly great Chardonnay for about the same amount of money (or less) as some people happily fork over for a big, stupid, score-hound Chardonnay from California (a wine which will only pair successfully with a buttered slab of porterhouse.)
Dear reader, you are smarter than that. Delicious honeycrisp apple fruit, honeycomb, vanilla, marshmallow, crème brulee and a civilized streak of limestone mineral and acidity. Open your eyes! Loss of innocence never tasted so delicious.

Expert Review

92 Points - "A less obviously ripe set of refined and pure yellow fruit aromas sits atop the sappy medium full flavors that ooze both ample dry extract and a firm minerality that is sufficiently prominent to change the texture of the long and penetrating finish. This is really a lovely wine that is a beautiful combination of elegance and finesse. Strongly recommended. Drink 2010+."
