Baumard Coteaux du Layon Carte d'Or 2005

Revisited, this Carte d'Or silenced all around the table in a gratitude to be alive, together, sipping this, and privileged to ponder how Baumard does this -and let's not forget that some of life's greatest joys come in small packages... Oh, and I still feel as I did when I wrote these words below exactly a year ago!

Wines like this remind me to be grateful. Lime trees and lanolin meld with freshly spun honey, scoops of melon and citrus rinds. Its touch of sweetness is checked by the ample inveterate acidity of Chenin Blanc. Here is a wine of both place and variety and fortunate for us the great Coteaux du Layon appellation and the noble Chenin Blanc who together reveal the synergy of matching the ideal grape variety to a generous terroir. Where else does one find such joy in half bottle format within all our reach! 12% alcohol 375ml.

Soft, rich aromas of honey and Golden Crisp apples. Beautiful, long and pervasive with more golden honey covered apples and sweet apricots in the mouth. Balanced with decent acid toward the really long finish. An excellent after dinner wine or pair with mango crème brulee. -SL
