Blacksmith Chenin Blanc 2009

100% Chenin Blanc aged 6 months in stainless steel. Ventana Vineyard is located just south of Salinas in Monterey County. The vines are planted on their own rootstalk, not grafted, providing a truer expression of the varietal and the vineyard. Historically, Chenin Blanc is the last fruit in the Ventana Vineyard to be harvested. The cool climate allows for more hang time, giving the fruit extra time to mature and gain complexity without becoming overripe. A small percentage (1% to 2%) of the Chenin Blanc gets botrytis, which adds to the fruit’s complexity and creates a richer mouthfeel.
