Blanchet Pouilly-Fume Calcite 2011

Ah... Calcite! Organically, hands on, intensely grown makes even challenging vintages more successful. Francis is on a roll… Calcite in French is what we know as Kimmeridgian marl -the calcareous clay containing limestone that is full of the vital minerals that vines bear into the fruit. This is a lovely glass and archetypal calcite Pouilly-Fumé: fresh fiddlehead fern scents accent a complete and balanced Sauvignon Blanc in which the limestone unites with the fruit in a softer edged and more lush and lasting appealing plumpness… a great vintage for the calcite because the fruit balances the limestone smokiness beautifully.
