Blanchet Pouilly-Fume Vieille Vignes 2013

Francis Blanchet 2013 Vieilles Vignes Pouilly Fumé, Loire | 12.5% | Nettles and sweet pea sing and ring from out the top of this Sauvignon Blanc a la Pouilly Fumé in all its clear toned clarity. From 80 year old vines on Blanchet's calcareous holdings comes this definitive Pouilly Fumé replete with minerality, nettles, a touch of herbs, zippy and ripe citric fruit and the verdant fragrance of ferns. At once both alert and composed, this is just the sort of wine that pulls people across the river from Sancerre to see what’s afoot among the mineral laden vineyards of Pouilly Fumé. Vinified in stainless steel, nothing at all detracts from the story told by old vines –a focused and compelling tale of place and the Sauvignon Blanc that suits it best.
