Blanchet Pouilly-Fume Silice 2018

Francis Blanchet 2011 Cuvée Silice Pouilly Fumé, Loire | 100% Sauvignon Blanc | Imported with love by The Wine Company (of Minnesota …is there any other?) | Goodness gracious even a hard day cannot keep a good wine down! Sauvignon Blanc such as this sings the songs of its homeland in phrases that inspire the rest of us to make the trek. Named for the flinty clay in which these vines grow, this smells of gunflint and lemon rinds, tastes of fragrant citrus peels with all its bracing citrusy structure but finishes rather polished and plush –a charming sophisticate that never once seems out of place despite its nuance or complexity –like child of wonder who through education bloomed into a renaissance type capable of carrying on in all the directions one could hope. On the finish one finds firm and flexing melon, drying lemon peels, and that a flint and steel that in a way that stirs memories of triggered cap guns and learning to make fire among Webelos while in the scouts. The Blanchets are wise and experienced in suggesting this Pouilly-Fumé as the perfect match for seafood, lobster, monkfish à l'américaine and all spicy dishes.
