Borsao Tres Picos 2011

Harvest after harvest, growers discover which methods lead to better wine. The struggle is that the best wines are most often the result of more demanding vineyard practices: deliberate pruning, attention to each vine, low yields. At Bodegas Borsao such set the standard; yields are lower than two tons per acre because old vines have little more to proffer but the fruit they muster are all the more concentrated and fragrant as a result. Ripe, thick-skinned blueberries make for a pleasant aroma but what wiles and tugs at me most is a warm nostalgic scent of a breaking in a baseball mitt –a leathern mix of oil and that sweet tanning scent that we encounter in the few great things which etch their way into memories: a proper pair of gloves, Italian leather shoes, a fine tooled leather bag. This wine is every bit as much about craftsmanship and attention to details that marvel –only the it is clearly about great wine made in the vineyard.
