Muga Rioja Reserva- Unfiltered 2008

Muga Reserva Riojo 2008 (ABV 13.5%): A color of dried blood on a skinned knee and a rich nose of cola served in a cedar cup. Classic old school Rioja that doesn’t disappoint even for a second. Surprisingly, it’s quite bright on the palate and while there is both firm acid and tannin its “stick to you ribs” richness in the mouth makes it all come to a balanced finish. Complexity abounds in this wine and at a totally quaffable alcohol content one could sit with a bottle and gladly try to figure it out some night.

Expert Review

91 Points - Wine Advocate, August 2012
"Dark cherry, cassis and graphite on the nose. The palate has a sappy nose with blackberry, raspberry and a touch of soy towards the finish. The tannins are ripe and quite 'thick' lending the 2008 admirable substance considering the vintage."

Winophilia, November 2012-
"The 2008 Bodegas Muga Unfiltered Rioja Reserva is an exotically perfumed, complex wine that offers an array of dark fruit and spice qualities, a supple texture and very soft tannins. Muga chose not to make their deluxe Prado Enea bottling in 2008 so all of the fruit that would normally have gone into that more expensive bottling is in this one."
