Bulletin Place Chardonnay 2009

Named after the oldest commercial building in Sydney (where they own a restaurant) this Chardonnay is surprisingly light on its feet. It has a nose of citrus blossoms, not the butterscotch or caramel of days gone by. The palate has a great creamy lees-y-ness to it. Proprietor Denis Power says that comes from starting with wild yeasts and then adding “scavenger yeasts” halfway through the fermentation to prevent it from getting stuck. The wine stays on the lees for 5 months in tank to impart that texture and add the the yeasty nose. The finish shows the tropical fruit you’re waiting for but a good dose of citrus to brighten it up in a perfectly balanced package.
