Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino 2006

Explosive Brunello nose that just pulls you in; lead pencil, stoney, dusty country roads in the fall, well s[iced roasted meats. In your mouth the impression is mighty flashy with such an amalgam of things going on that it is hard to dissect into describable bits but here it goes. The fruit is marvelous and lush but in itself is not the dominate component. What impresses is that the acidity and alcohols propell the flavours all about in your mouth like a laser in the Hall of Mirrors. This is an excellent Brunello vintage and the Casanouve di Neri is a prize. Alcohol 14.5%. Notes by LAC. 9/20/2011.

Expert Review

89 points By Ian D'Agata, Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Jul 10
Bright medium ruby. Pungent red berry and floral aromas are reminiscent of Burgundy , with a mineral nuance adding energy and vivacity. Fresh and lively, with penetrating flavors of red berries, lemon zest, licorice and minerals. Finishes persistent, fine-grained and bright, with lingering flavors of fresh red berries. Impressively perfumed and nuanced for a Brunello in this price range, this is the best entry-level wine from Casanova di Neri in some time.

Food Pairings

Seriously anything tomatoey sings with Sangiovese, pizza and pasta to be sure. Sausages, chicken, gazpacho. Bread salad.
