Casanova di Neri Rosso / IRROSSO 2016

Casanova di Neri 2014 Rosso di Montalcino | Even at first whiff and first sip it takes no time at all to realize that not every Rosso di Montalcino is created equal and this is leagues ahead of most any available. Even though this is aged less than the Brunello di Montalcino this still sees 15 months in oak and is still made from the “Brunello” clone of Sangiovese and coming from Le Cetine Pietradonice vineyard just south of Montalcino. It has the pert posture of a sinuous and svelte ballerina dressed in that velvet one yearns to brush against, stroke and marvel. There’s a clean preserved red cherry note (griotinnes) and a floral note of violets one seldom finds unless we spend up to the Brunello tier. We are animal in our response like one watering at the mouth when coming in from the cold after a long walk we are greeted in the kitchen to a simmering savory ragout. It is sensuous and sensational but on the human scale speaking to our appetites. This is exceptional for a young Brunello in the flushed Rosso complexion of youth.
