Cline Ancient Vines Mourvedre 2011

Cline’s Ancient Vine Mourvèdre is quite the standout as a varietal wine. We love the floral top notes and depth that Mourvèdre brings to the blends of Chateauneuf du Pape and the varietal wines of Bandol but only from Cline are we met by eucalypt plums and brambly blueberries to then encounter juicy acids and fine tannins and a florally fragrant finish. There’s a hint of dark cocoa to the finish that lends a welcomed bitter nuance to the ripe fruit we find throughout the palate –as if to temper it all into a rich contrast. A wine for lighter game, roasted birds, and perhaps especially pork off the grill or pan seared with sage.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, May 2013

"Our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre offers a
hint of eucalyptus on the nose, distinct
chocolate characteristics, luscious deep
plum, and concentrated cherry. This
scrumptious and unusually delightful
wine has a substantial mouth-feel
followed by soft tannins."
Charles G. Tsegeletos, Winemaker

Food Pairings

It's a perfect compliment to herb-roasted meats, grilled pork tenderloin or Truffled Mac & Goat Cheese.
