Darnaud Crozes Hermitage Les Trois Chenes 2010

Holy Moly this is Northern Rhone Syrah that I might have guessed to be Hermitage rather than Crozes because it strikes that special note Syrah can only chime when raised in the right environment: floral roses mingle with garrigue while spicy berries yield to a lifted bacon scents. The palate is handsome and fragrant of evergreens -of juniper and rosemary. The structure is sure but not brash and the palate is I daresay as bold or more fragrant than the nose. The finish stays close like the heady pheromones of one you want near you; as much by its sense of presence as a beguiling scent, this wine inspires an animal response and makes one dream of rich meals of game and slow roasted meats.

This rich and mouthfilling red displays gutsy blackberry, roasted fig and steeped black currant fruit, rolled up with ganache and dark anise notes. Ends with a smoldering charcoal edge on the finish. A rock-solid wine.

Food Pairings

Winged beasties with dark meat like duck, goose, squab, and griffins. Hooved game. Roasted meats.
