Chateau de Chamilly Bourgogne Rouge 2010

Chateau Chamilly 2010 Côte Chalonnaise | 12.5% | Veronique Desfontaine & Fils are now representing six generations of sustainable viticulture in this southern 40 acre pocket of Burgundy between the municipalities of Saint-Gilles and Chamilly hence the castle’s name. Beguiling beauty this 2010 with riper cherries, firm raspberries, wild blueberries and a just curling cinnamon bark to the nose. My colleague Ann Avant beside me said “this wine is like a coin dropped deep into a well” …with things to tell I guess. I smell something woodsy green that I very much enjoy –less the vernal, first scents of Spring and more the fern like, freshly mown hay of fougère one smell on oak moss growing on fir trees. There is a refreshing lift on the palate despite the fine tannins that lend their edge to the woodsy fruit of this. A real pleasure and the best I’ve tried to date.
