Tour de Mirambeau Reserve Blanc 2018

40% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Semillion, 20% Muscadelle -and while the generous share of Semillon is a tremendous addition in its own right it is the Muscadelle that is the real boon to set it apart from the lighter more neutral sea of white Bordeaux as few incorporate this regional grape variety. Muscadelle works wonders to add texture. With so much character for such a white Bordeaux, people are inclined to drink a mountain of this every vintage and it has really caught on year after year to develop quite the loyal following. The Despagne family behind Tour de Mirambeau have been farming for some 250 years but only founded their own estate as recently as 1969. As winter approaches, this always proves the welcomed segue for we who love the Sauvignon Blanc category as it has a bit more texture and weight without remotely being bottom heavy -instead this is full but invigorating. As the cold snaps it still proves gratifying -making it a all rounder year round.
