Drouhin Macon-Villages Blanc 2018

Five months since my last gushing note I had another memorable sip and thought I ought to say a bit more: Drouhin Macon Villages 2012 Burgundy, France | One of the great values of all white Burgundy from the limestone hills near Pouilly Fuisse in the Mâcon in the south where for its slightly warmer climate it is a bit fleshier but it is still defined by a mineral structure that scaffolds all the green papaya and a touch of ripe pear. Plush enough to please a California girl but snappy and sappy enough for those with one foot in the old world and one in the new.

13 % alcohol by volume. This is a lovely appellation Mâcon blanc that shows just what an affinity Chardonnay has for these chalky clay soils of the hills neighboring Pouilly Fuissé north of Beaujolais. Gently pressed to preserve all its bright and floral orchard fruit and then kept in stainless steel to keep all its poignant zing of lemon juice squeezed on apple slices, this Mâcon is a lovely taste of the warmer southern climes of Burgundy.

Food Pairings

It is a perfect accompaniment to full-flavored fish dishes and charcuterie. Also, try it alone as an aperitif. As with other white wines, Macon-Villages should be served chilled but not cold. It is meant to be enjoyed when young, the wine being at it
