Drouhin Chablis Domaine Vaudon 2008

Style and elegance and lemon curd and pure Chardonnay fruit and all that there is to love about the distinctive marine-shell laden earth from which these grapes grow. The Drouhin family continues to impress by letting the fruit and the earth speak for itself. This wine has a long self-confident finish that satisfies for minutes.

The Drouhins' have very large holdings in Chablis. This is the Reserve Vaudon Chablis which is the best parcells of village Chablis. It is brilliant straw in colour, the nose is Chablis and more. The minerality that is prominent in the 2008 premier and grand cru is more restrained here; there is surprisingly effusive and totally charming fruit in the bouquet; white flowers and freshly sliced Bosc pear(Pyrus communis). In the mouth it is more 2008, lemon grass that I have found in many of these wines but here it is a bit more forward in the mouth. Then the marvelous exciting stimulating acidity, as bracing as a mitten full of snow in the face.
