Drouhin Chablis Premier Cru 2009

Heaven help me. I swallow this wine and cannot help but take pause. I wonder if Chablis might have just become my deserted island wine. With mineral notes and lemon rinds this is certainly focused but with polish and a rounded mouthfeel; this is textural and hedonistic without curving all the edges. This wine is exhilarating –like the company of a charismatic friend whose ideas you love to hear and yearn to be a part of. 2009 is certainly a comfy vintage with plush comfort in terms of Chablis and yet this is still bounding with all the agility of Chablissiene limestone. This is the happy result of gifted terroir combined with the generous sunshine of a fine vintage –and despite the ripe fruit, like all Drouhin’s Chablis I have enjoyed this season, this too weighs in at a pristine 12.5% alcohol. Imagine how happy I’d be hopping between Chincoteague and Prince Edward Island with cases of this and a broad smile on my face. I guess if my deserted island included the company of plentiful Malpeques, this would certainly be the bottle for me.
