Drouhin Pouilly-Fuisse 2018

Joseph Drouhin 2012 Pouilly-Fuissé AOC, | 13% | Leave it to the deft and delicate touch of the famille Drouhin to preserve the minerality and lifting structure of Pouilly Fuissé –to foster a Chardonnay from these limestone slopes of villages Pouilly and Fuissé which are far farther south than the Drouhin cellars in Beaune and therefore far warmer. Every wine has a context; of the land its vines called home –in this case these southerly limestone slopes; of the way it was raised in the vineyard –in this case with a profound respect for soil health and sustainability; and of its elevation through the cellar –in this case with only the natural, ambient yeasts aloft in the rarefied air of Burgundy and then matured in stainless steel and neutral oak casks to preserve the voice of its gifted terroir, but there is also age and in its first flush of youth this is a rosy cheeked Pouilly-Fuissé whose heart is light, whose skin is still glowing, firm yet supple, and whose mind is far from any such thoughts instead set on nothing beyond what joy lies round the next corner: Pouilly-Fuissé in its charming childhood.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, February 19, 2014 (Root)

"A seductive wine and a really nice expression of the Chardonnay grape! The colour is golden, with some green reflections. Among the floral and fruity aromas, almond and ripe grapes dominate. On the palate, the wine is refreshingly pleasant, ethereal in its lightness. Long and refreshing aftertaste."
