Duxoup Syrah 2013

Duxoup 2013 Syrah, Tedeschi Vineyards – Home Ranch, Dry Creek Valley | 13.5% | Who said American Syrah is boozy and overblown?! That they might never achieve the equipoise of Syrah’s of the Northern Rhône? This wine calls such bluffs. Blackberries, boysenberries, those licorice like hackberries and those piney juniper berries sure greet the nose but so do garrigue scrubland herbs as do dried roses and the savory edge of roasting pan juices mingling clear flowing blood and thyme. The palate is awash in all these but also firmly structured a la les Syrahs de France. It is hard bodied, no nonsense, and streetwise to even navigate the rough and tumble of the 18th Arrondissement.
Wine review by Nicholas Livingston, Wednesday November 25th, 2015 (Root)

“We are delighted to release this new vintage of a Duxoup Classic. We have made Syrah since we began the winery in 1981. As with past vintages, we blended in 10% Cabernet Sauvignon – from grapes grown adjacent to the Syrah block, on the same marvelous gravelly soil. The grapes were fermented, pressed, racked, aged and bottled in the Duxoup Tradition – slowly and carefully! Serve with lamb, duck or any full-throttle pasta dish.”
