Ecker Zweigelt Brillant 2012
Ecker 2012 Brillant Zweigelt, Wagram, Österreich | 13% | Immediately the nose tells us this is more serious Zweigelt –not a buttoned up old fashioned sort but a deeper, more savory red of cracked pepper spice, a gentle scent of meat pan juices and richer red fruit ranging from velvety plums to black raspberries. The palate is more textural than most Zweigelt as well with fine grained tannins, a core of fruit and layers of clove spice and a lasting finish –a wine for duck and birds on the wing, mushroom driven dishes, mild curries, and just about anything char marked off the grill. A marvel and truly sophisticated for such a value.

There are few red wines as perfect with lighter, casual foods. Chicken, pizza, pasta, burgers and most takeout.
