Fevre Chablis Montmains 1er Cru 2017

William Fèvre 2012 Montmains, Premier Cru Chablis | 12.5% | 100% Chardonnay | What an enrapturing nose of vinous spices and orchard perfumes –of lifted, savory chicken stock with star anise and that clove scent of magnolia clippings. 1er Cru Chablis a la Montmains is surely mineral in all that limey limestone liquor of citrus and crushed seashells but richer, rounder and of a more tenor timbre. For all its complexity one can just as easily let a whole bottle slip down one’s neck without pondering a single charm but should one at the table allow even a second thought for this marvel of a wine it will sweep them off to the limestone slopes of Fèvre’s southeasterly parcels of Montmains, Butteaux and Forêts whose soils range from the Kimmeridgian limestone to the blue clay marls found in Butteaux –all fostering a powerful Chablis of impressive structure and longevity despite its immediate appeal.
