Gaillard St.Joseph Blanc 2011

The wines of Pierre Gaillard take one closer than any other to the heart of the northern Rhone. Neighboring winegrowers make their St. Joseph blanc mixing Marsanne and Roussanne while Pierre Gaillard only uses the superior Roussanne variety and it shows. This is varietal Roussanne as you like it –a true taste of the right grape in the right place: the upper plots of Malleval and Chavanay. Low yields ensure great extract, ripened acids, a polished texture and minerality. Fragrant as can be, this 2011 offers wave after wave of apricots and fields of flowers in bloom and flavors to match all coming together in a vibrating tension of polish and verve, fruit and fragrance, mineral and body. An absolute bargain considering its superlative quality, this reinforces that even the greatest can improve upon their own achievements.
