Gaillard Saint-Joseph Rouge 2010

Pierre Gaillard 2010 Saint-Joseph AOC, Northern Rhône Valley | 13% | Saint-Joseph - 100% Syrah | From vineyards about Chavenay in Saint-Joseph (renowned for their dark fruit) this Syrah lives up to its rightful reputation offering ripe black plums and taut blackberries, cracked black pepper, roast meat pan juices and a garrigue less lavender and more rosemary and cistes -those resinous rock roses that seem to drive the Gaillard profile and which sing so gracefully from these otherwise brooding Syrahs always honoring the terroir of the northern Rhône. At once sweet, dry and savory, light, lifted and gripping, fragrant and flavorsome yet gentle and somehow calm, this is Syrah –as only Gaillard and Saint Joseph can achieve in a combined effort that seems effortless.
