Gaillard Roussanne 2012

Gaillard 2012 Roussanne, Collines Rhodaniennes Indication Géographique Protégée, Rhône | 14% | Jeanne Gaillard has taken up the mantle of her father Pierre with great aplomb. Judging by this fragrant Roussanne redolent of blossom and bletted apricots that translate eloquently on the palate where joined by poached pears and rosehips this really rounds out with a finish of tangy fleshy, peachy stone fruit in a way that is richly round without going the viscous way of Viognier but closing with a lasting fragrant apricot and an edge. A real treat of a Roussanne from the granitic Rhodanian hills of the northern Rhone, Jeanne Gaillard’s rests eight months in casks (only 10% of which are new to preserve all the mineral fruit). The barrels are built of French oak from the forests of Allier and Nevers renowned for their fine grain and gentle touch. This is scrumptious wine.
