Gaillard Syrah la Derniere Vigne 2013

Pierre Gaillard 2013 La Dernière Vigne Syrah, IGP des Collines Rhodaniennes | 12.5% | This “Last Vine” is 100% Syrah true to its northern Rhône roots –which planted in 1975 so those roots were 38 years old when this was harvested. The 1 ¼ acre vineyard rests on the pebbly clay just outside Ternay on a southwesterly glacial moraine. Storing and reflecting heat of day, these stony soils work wonders for ripening Syrah to a nice depth of concentration and a dynamic tension between ripe acid and enough fragrant peppery, black plum and blackberry fruit that 12 months in Alliers and Nevers oak casks, 50% new, compliments rather than drives the style of this Rhône red –a thorough pleasure start to finish and nervy enough for endless food pairings.
