Garofoli Rosso Piceno Farnio 2013

Farnio Rosso Piceno DOC: Made from 70% Montepulciano & 30% Sangiovese this is a beautiful, unoaked red true to the the Marche hills. Fermented in stainless steel no oak stands between the fragrant cherries and oregano that fill the nose and wash over the palate with a polish that brings along a lifted floral note of rose petals and a bass line of savory roasting herbs. A racy, medium bodied red poised for food pairings, its nervy structure and burnished tannins make for just the sort of wine to match with bright Mediterranean cuisine that incorporates, capers, tomatoes, olives and garlic. I liked last vintage plenty but this is all the more engaging and elegant.

Food Pairings

Seriously anything tomatoey sings with Sangiovese, pizza and pasta to be sure. Sausages, chicken, gazpacho. Bread salad.
