Girardin Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Vieille Vignes 2006

Girardin Chassagne-Montrachet Abbaye Morgeot Vieille Vignes-
When we first were graced with an allocation of wines from this domaine they were all red; we and everyone else int eh world wanted his whites. Minding our p's and q's, dotting our i's and crossing our t's, we finally moved into the favored ranks.

The whites here are for white Burgundy lovers, myself among them. This wine, like nearly every white Burgundy, needs breathing.

I don't know this lieu-dit (Abbaye de Morgeot) but I will remember and seek it from this time forward.

The nose is of crushed almonds, perhaps even marzipan as there is a sweetness to it. Heart of palm, white flowers, and a citrus zest that lifts the whole to your nose.

The flavours, the persistence in the mouth are the reasons I love really good white Burgundy like this wine. It actually tingles with minerality and a rhapsody of fruit acids, lemon custard, panna cotta and myer lemons. Terrific wine!

Expert Review

91 Points - "A white flower, pear and citrus peel nose slides into fresh, pure and admirably intense medium full flavors that possess more refinement than usual though there is the expected muscle as well, all wrapped in a sappy and intense finish. This is really quite good and while there is a mild touch of acidity that sticks out on the finish, it's not enough to upset the balance, especially with food."

"Again, your typical perfumed Chassagne nose. On the palate more ripe than the village wine, thicker fruit, less acid, yet more on the texture side. Very, very silky with some ripe peach. Some juicy bubble gum fruit, which is very ripe and round. It has power. Very smoky and butter with a concentrated finish."
