Guigal Condrieu 2015
Guigal 2011 Condrieu (100% Viognier) | 13.5% | From the renowned Condrieu appellation (from the French coin de ruisseau meaning corner of the brook) the most celebrated land of Viognier on the planet for its sandy granite slopes, this is true to form with scents and flavors of fleshy, soft, chin dripping peaches, soft ripened apricots, and balmy orchards in bloom; this might not sound like a wine descriptor but it sums up this Condrieu nicely because Viognier in the Northern Rhône bears all these soft sided stone fruit qualities as a voluptuous sort of beauty. Such a soft white makes for a pleasant counter point to the rich Syrahs of neighboring Cote Rôtie. 30 year old vines help concentrate this fragrant Viognier enough that a third of it is fermented in new oak barrels. Between the varietal character and 100% malolactic fermentation, the acidity is on the softer end of the spectrum which make it a pleasant partner to truffled eggs or else flaky halibut, plaice, cod or haddock.

If its got lots of butter or cream, yum, serve Viognier. Lobster. Dishes spiced with cumin or curry.
