Hautes Noelles Muscadet Cotes de Grandlieu 2009

This is one of my favorite vintners in the Loire. The wines, as the man, are mindful. His property is located in Muscadet Cotes de Grandlieu where granite and shist define the soils and the lake moderates the temperatures. Grapes grown on granite tend to be more aromatic and those on shist, more mineral. What a happy consequence for Haut Noelles muscadet. To me the wine smells like sliced cactus sprinkled with kosher salt and drizzled with a squeeze of fresh lime. The flavours are fresh and lively and delicate yet not so much as to let your attention slide. I could drink this everyday and never get bored. - Wine reviewed by LAC. August, 2010.
