La Nieta Rioja 2006

At the foot of the Sierra Cantabria mountain range, sleeps the medieval town of Laguardia. An outstanding site chosen by farmers ever since the Neolithic times due to its exceptional climatic and geographical characteristics

Here amongst archaeological remains, ancient hermitages and churches, lies La Nieta. A unique vineyard due to its geographical setting, solar exposure and its subsoil - a rocky sandstone composition. With a surface area of 1.7 Hectares, this vineyard was planted in 1975.

La Nieta 2006 is a result of a rigorous selection of Tempranillo bunches, which have been destemmed by hand. Later, it rests in optimum natural conditions in underground cellars, similar to those of the 16th century.

Expert Review

96 Points - "The 2006 La Nieta is 100% Tempranillo from Finca La Nieta, planted in 1975. Malolactic fermentation was in new French barriques followed by 18 months in new French oak. Purple in color, it delivers a fragrant, alluring bouquet of roasted herbs, graphite, damp earth, incense, blueberry, and blackberry. Opulent, dense, and layered, this promising wine has tons of fuit, soft tannin, and superb length. It will benefit from 6-8 years of cellaring and offer prime drinking from 2016-2030."

94 points - "Spicy oak notes of sandalwood and fresh coffee frame focused red fruit flavors of raspberry and cherry in this sleek, expressive red, which has fine, firm tannins and the classic leafy and minerally notes of Rioja. Drink now through 2014."
