Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

This showcases the terrarosa soil atop limestone unique to Coonawara that highlights the region's hallmark features: a sleek eucalypt fragrance akin to mint chocolates and full blackberry and brambly fruit that is certainly ripe and round but balanced by a defining acidity that makes this much more elegant and engaging than its neighbors. This is further rounded out by spending some time in French and American oak and that a lot of this fruit comes from low yielding 45 year old vines. Pound for pound this punches well above its weight class. 14.1% ABV.

The wine screams coona warra with Christmas spice, dark brooding fig pate, grilled black plums, currant jam, smokey cedar notes. Great rich mouthfeel with fruit, minerals, acidity and tannins in balance. The coona warra dust just makes this wine unique.

Expert Review

90 point score Wine Advocate
"Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 The Cover Drive Cabernet Sauvignon presents intense cassis and blackberries aromas with hints of pencil shavings, cloves and bay leaf. Medium-full bodied, it has a medium level of grainy tannins, lively acidity and mouth-filling, very pure berry flavors, finishing long. Drink it now through 2016."
