Juan Gil 2007
This is Jumilla but don't let preconceptions inform your expectations. Yes its Monastrella and grown on chalk so it could be oh-so-Mourvedre, but its not. The winemaking shoots for a more fruit forward wine than Monastrella is normally expressed.
The color is deep; the nose is prettier than most of this varietal which gives one not only pause but pleasure. The fragrances are of crushed blackberries or blueberry pie with a hint of mint. Th flavors are cassis, walnuts, white pepper and cardamom all couched in a luxurious rich texture. A real plus is that the alchohol is really subdued even though its 15 percent.

Expert Review
90 Points - "Purple-colored with an enticing bouquet of underbrush, cedar, plum, and blueberry, on the palate it is dense, sweetly-fruited, and concentrated."
