Coltibuono Vin Santo 6/375 2009

Trebbiano is a tough grape to write about because there are so many clones. Mostly the grape produces fairly neutral wine so is blended with more assertive varietals or in France where it is called Ugni Blanc distilled into Cognac and Armagnac. There are exceptions. The Trebbiano grown just south of Lake Garda in the Veneto region of Italy is bottled as Lugana is very fruity and entirely engaging. Straw coloured with grapefruit and honey dew nuances it is a lively inviting wine. In the France, particularly in Gascony, Ungi Blanc as the French call it makes lively, zesty wines with a mouthwatering citrus character.
