Luzon Luzon 2011

Jumilla [Hoo-MEE-ya] in Spain’s hot southwest has these ancient, gnarly Monastrell –a variety renowned in France under their name Mourvèdre. Here in the arid gravelly chalk these clusters concentrate to a deep, dark, blackberry and grilled plum sort of fruit with that waxy licorice like hackberry aroma. It is a mouthful of much of the same with a tangy lifted mint to a dense blue and black fruit.
