Marchesi di Gresy Nebbiolo Martinenga 2012

Marchesi di Gresy 2012 Martinenga Nebbiolo, Langhe DOC | 13.5% | Named Martinenga for the eponymous Barbaresco vineyard, this too hails from this parcel, held as the finest plot in Barbaresco. While this comes from a single Barbaresco vineyard, this is simply a Langhe Nebbiolo because the Marchesi simply wants to offer an approachable glimpse into what Nebbiolo here can do. It also is not barrel aged after the fashion of the Martinenga Barbaresco and comes from Nebbiolo planted to southwesterly slopes rather than due south. Still: the results are phenomenal, fragrant, flavorsome and true to type and the renowned reputation Martinenga holds in our esteem. A gentile Nebbiolo with all the telltale camphor notes of rosemary and jasmine, a warm note of woodsy cinnamon stick, a gentle scent of truffles, and a savory impression of meat pan juices. The real deal. Not only does this make one’s palate marvel but it is true to all the floral, scented charms of Nebbiolo while rising above its brooding tannic side –a testimony to the Martinenga vineyard.
