Marqués de Cáceres 2005 Gaudium Gran Vino, Rioja | 14% | 95% Tempranillo, 5% Graciano | From an excellent vintage, from Marqués de Cáceres’ very best low yielding old vineyards, this Gaudium is densely structured Rioja like reduced pomegranate juice, spice box, a rich leathern scent and an erudite creature comfort character akin to basking casually in an oak paneled library with orderly shelves tempting you by all the topics you most enjoy. A meditation red every bit as beguiling and consuming as an elegant vintage Port but a in the form of a rich dry red.

Very versatile. The better cuts of lamb. Most any meat braised or stewed. Game birds and poultry, especially duck.
