Li Veli Orion Primitivo 2009
One of the myths about Orion the hunter is that he is the offspring of land and sea (his parents being the earth-goddess Eurayale and the sea-god Neptune). The same could be said of the Li Veli winery, situated on land in heart of Salento, in Apulia, which makes up the heel of the boot of Italy, with the Adriatic sea to the north and the Ionian sea to the south.
Orion is 100% Primitivo with a beautiful bright red-ruby color and zingy aromas. Primitivo is said to be related to the Zinfandel grape and this wine shows similar characteristics -- it's powerful, bright, soft, a tiny bit sweet, and wholly delicious.
- Wine Tasting Note by AA, February 2011
"Dense ruby red with a purplish rim, it is immediately intense on the nose with marked aromas of ripe and fleshy red fruits, notably cherries followed by spicy notes of cinnamon and nutmeg; in the mouth it is full, powerful, smooth and very long, with a well defined acid streak which makes it fresh and pleasing.
Alcohol: 13% Vol."
