Li Veli 2012 Orion Primitivo, Salento | 14% | Because Larry’s chicken thigh rub has wiled its way into my palate memory, this scrumptious red begins on the nose with fennel seeds and tellicherry peppercorns ground in a pepper grinder in a way that pops out of the glass with a heady rose petal nuance and a red cherry fruit augmented by a sort of salume note. The palate is rather bold with real presence and a cheek tonguing tannin and a spice along the finish. My pizza wine for sure.
