Mattes Sabran Corbieres Le Clos Redon 2008

I love the Syrah I’ve tasted from this part of the world. The local interpretation creates Syrah as a great match for warm, dinner foods. In Corbieres we were served a rich beef stew that matched perfectly with their Syrah. Like the Mattes-Sabran it showed dark berry fruit with a bit of spice, and also like the Mattes-Sabran it brought plenty of acidity to bring brightness to its food pairing - a refreshing contribution. The Clos Redon is dense and dark with blackberries and pepper and even cassis(?). The palate is full yet fresh.
- wine tasting note by DYB, September 2010

"The le Clos Redon is our 100% Syrah wine. We try to keep as well the nose and the mouth of french syrahs, from VALLEE DU RHONE every year, and to obtain a millesime effect. As our yields are limited, around 40 hl/ha, the concentration is optimum. We have good experience of aging, as for instance 1996 is still unique, though at that time, our experience was still limited and age of fields quite young (8 years only). They can easily be compared to the famous SAINT-JOSEPH, CROZES HERMITAGE, and even HERMITAGE."
